First Sunday (Neděle) in CZ!

Stairs leading to our flat

It's only been four days since I arrived in Ostrava, Czech Republic, but I feel like it's been much longer. My journey from Los Angeles to Ostrava was long, but really could not have been better. Thankfully, I arrived in Ostrava with very few problems. There was even a Czech on the Pendolino from Prague to Ostrava that helped me with my suitcases and translated Czech to English for me. That was REALLY an answer to prayer. I had two suitcases (50 lbs. each) and two smaller bags. I had prayed and asked for help getting all my stuff on the train, and the Lord provided.

Classes at Fishnet do not start until September 17th. This gives me some time to get to know the people I'll be working with and Ostrava. My roommates and I will be setting up the flat soon (I'll post pictures after the flat gets set up). Really, our flat is in a very convenient place. We are about a 5 minute walk from Fishnet and pretty much everything else. I can walk to a grocery store, salon, paper store, clothing store, multiple restaurants, cafes, the tram/bus stop, a park, the post office, an ice cream shop, etc. etc. within 5 minutes in every direction. It's pretty AMAZING! I really wasn't expecting everything to be so close, but I'm really thankful that it is :).
The street I live on
This past weekend, I tried to get out and see Ostrava as much as I could. After I start teaching, I probably won't be able to see as much as I can now. Today, I went to a Czech Brethren church with my supervisor, his wife, and four kids. I really had no idea what the pastor was talking about except that he spoke from Proverbs 4:20-27. Thankfully, I'll be taking Czech lessons this year.

There is so much to take in! I'm looking forward to sharing with you about the students I'll be teaching this year. Hopefully, I'll know soon. For now, it will have to be one day at a time.

Ahoj!

  1. I've really enjoyed the pictures. They look just like a postcard! Everything is so beautiful. The colors in the paint or concrete or whatever it is seems like a painted picture. Thanks for the updates and so glad you were able to have such a great trip over and all the help you received. Praying all goes well and glad you have some time to get settled and prepare.
    Love ,
    Mrs. Elaine
